Canta, Rie, Bebe Lyrics

Pat-a-pan

(Patapan)
Preface

"Patapan", also called as Pat a Pan, is a lovely French Christmas carols written by Bernard de La Monnoye. It was first published in 1720 in Noël bourguignons. This carol was originally titled as "Guillô, Pran Ton Tamborin". It was all about the birth of Jesus and described the shepherds as they play the melody using simple instruments – drums and flutes.

It has English versions in which the most popular was performed by David Archuleta, recorded in Christmas from the Heart album in 2009.

Pat-a-pan Lyrics

French

Guillaume, prends ton tambourin,
Toi, prends ta flûte, Robin;
Au son de ces instruments,
Turelurelu, patapatapan,
Au son de ces instruments,
Je dirai Noël gaîment.

C’était la mode autrefois,
De louer le Roi des rois,
Au son de ces instruments,
Turelurelu, patapatapan,

Que la flûte et le tambour;
Au son de ces instruments,
Turelurelu, patapatapan,
Au son de ces instruments,
Chantons, dansons, sautons en!
English

Willie, bring your little drum;
Robin, bring your flute and come;
And be merry while you play,
Tu-re-lu-re-lu,
Pat-a-pat-a-pan,
Come be merry while you play,
On this joyous Holiday!

When the men of olden days
To the King of Kings gave praise,
On the fife and drum did play,
Tu-re-lu-re-lu,
Pat-a-pat-a-pan,
On the fife and drum did play,
So their hearts were glad and gay!

God and man today become
More in tune than fife and drum,
So be merry while you play,
Tu-re-lu-re-lu,
Pat-a-pat-a-pan,
So be merry while you play,
Sing and dance this Christmas Day!

Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer

Origin and History | Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer Lyrics | Youtube Video | Music Sheets

Preface

This Christmas song speaks of a simple Christmas Eve gathering and how a grandmother struggles in a snowstorm after getting really drunk from having more eggnog than she can handle. She managed to get caught in the snowstorm because had to acquire her medication probably for dementia because she forgot to bring it to the gathering and in the process is run over by Santa Claus’ reindeer as they were passing by. She is eventually killed. The 2nd and 3rd verses illustrate the Christmas party that took place the following day where everybody is dressed in black. The hilarious part is that everybody acts as if nothing has happened as the Christmas song ends with a forewarning that Santa is undeserving to have a driver's license and that we should all beware.

History of Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

This comical Christmas song was penned by Randy Brooks while Elmo and Patsy Trigg Shropshire were the very 1st to performed it during the 1970’s. Because of its freshness and humor, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer was later made into an animated movie that was a hit in America for some time.

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer Lyrics

Grandma got run over by a reindeer
Walking home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
She'd been drinkin' too much egg nog,
And we'd begged her not to go.
But she'd left her medication,
So she stumbled out the door into the snow.
When they found her Christmas mornin',
At the scene of the attack.
There were hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin' Claus marks on her back.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin' home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now were all so proud of Grandpa,
He's been takin' this so well.
See him in there watchin' football,
Drinkin' beer and playin' cards with cousin Belle.
It's not Christmas without Grandma.
All the family's dressed in black.

And we just can't help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin' home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Now the goose is on the table
And the pudding made of fig.
And a blue and silver candle,
That would just have matched the hair in Grandma'swig.
I've warned all my friends and neighbours.
Better watch out for yourselves."
They should never give a license,
To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.

Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
Walkin' home from our house, Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.

Up On The Housetop

Up On The Housetop Lyrics

Up on the housetop reindeer pause
Out jumps good old Santa Clause
Down thru the chimney with lots of toys
All for the little ones
Christmas joys.

Chorus

Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Up on the housetop
Click, click, click
Down thru the chimney with
Good Saint Nick

First comes the stocking
Of little Nell
Oh, dear Santa
Fill it well
Give her a dolly
That laughs and cries
One that will open
And shut her eyes

Repeat Chorus

Next comes the stocking
Of little Will
Oh, just see what
A glorious fill
Here is a hammer
And lots of tacks
Also a ball
And a whip that cracks

Repeat Chorus

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Origin and History | Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Lyrics | Youtube Video | Music Sheets

Preface

First heard in Meet Me in St. Louis by Judy Garland during the 1940’s, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas has touched the hearts of many Christmas-loving folks across the borders. With its sentimental theme and heartwarming melody, one can’t help but melt away to the tune of the music Hugh Martin and Ralph Blaine’s created for the said movie.

History and Origin of Christmas Carol Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Like most popular American Christmas songs, this song as endured numerous versions and has been played in all sorts of tempo and styles ranging from the classics to even a rock version sung by the Twisted Sisters. With a fabulously tailored Christmas song such as this, you could definitely expect that many big names in the music industry would kill to include this song in their Christmas albums because people can relate to it thus it is easy to market. In fact, names such as Michael Buble, Lady Antebellum, Ella Fitzgerald, James Taylor, Connie Francis, Frank Sinatra and even Kermit the Frog has taken a piece of this action.

When asked in an interview, Hugh Martin admits that the Twisted Sisters’ take on the prominent Christmas song was the weirdest version he ever heard and Frank Sinatra’s was his favorite.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas Lyrics

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.

Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star
upon the highest bough.
And have yourself
A merry little Christmas now.

Over the River and Through the Woods

Over the River and Through the Woods Lyrics

Over the river and through the woods
To Grandmother's house we go.
The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh
Through white and drifted snow.

Over the river and through the woods,
Oh, how the wind does blow.
It stings the toes and bites the nose
As over the ground we go.

Over the river and through the woods
To have a full day of play.
Oh, hear the bells ringing ting-a-ling-ling,
For it is Christmas Day.

Over the river and through the woods,
Trot fast my dapple gray;
Spring o'er the ground just iike a hound,
For this is Christmas Day.

Over the river and through the woods
And straight through the barnyard gate.
It seems that we go so dreadfully slow;
It is so hard to wait.

Over the river and through the woods,
Now Grandma's cap I spy.
Hurrah for fun; the pudding's done;
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie.

Rocking Around the Christmas Tree

Rocking Around the Christmas Tree Lyrics

Rocking around the Christmas tree
At the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
Every couple tries to stop.

Rocking around the Christmas tree,
Let the Christmas spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie
And we'll do some caroling.

you will get a sentimental
Feeling when you hear
Voices singing let's be jolly,
Deck the halls with boughs of holly.

Rocking around the Christmas tree,
Have a happy holiday
Everyone dancing merrily
In the new old-fashioned way.

Winter Wonderland

Origin and History | Winter Wonderland Lyrics | Youtube Video | Music Sheets

Preface

Winter Wonderland, an exquisite song to listen to most especially when you have been fortunate enough to experience winter first hand because you can better relate with the lyrics. It is a winter song that has a Christmas instant pop standard. Hearing this song makes you want to jump for joy and run outside your front lawn because when you say it is Christmas, it is time for snow, a soft granular material made up of crystalline water ice consisting of a massive amount of snowflakes that fall from the clouds.

History of Christmas Carol Winter Wonderland

This song was written by Felix Bernard way back in the 1940’s and the one who crafted the lyrics was Richard B. Smith. He was seemingly motivated to make this Christmas carol after witnessing the Honesdale's Central Park enclosed in snow.

Years passed by and it has been recorded by over 150 varied artists. But what matter most is the feeling that we find after listening to the song which is happiness because Christmas is the time for giving and forgiving.

Winter Wonderland Lyrics

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight.
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown

He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kiddies knock him down.

When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Walking in a winter wonderland,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Let There Be Peace on Earth

Origin and History | Let There Be Peace on Earth Lyrics | Youtube Video | Music Sheets

Preface

As any decent human being, it is always our every wish to live in a peaceful community, country and if possible, a peaceful world altogether. What kind of person would really wish otherwise? But as human beings, it is painfully a sad reality that cruelty sometimes prevails over our peaceful nature because of jealousy and greed driven by the inescapable bondage of sin. To the point that we have given up on the idea of “peace on earth” and have diminished this ideology to a mere cliché that beauty pageant contestants say during the question and answer portion before the coronation.

Origin of The Let There Be Peace on Earth

The song was written by a husband and wife, Sy Miller and Jill Jackson, just dreaming of having a peaceful world for all human beings and they believe each one of us could help make this a reality with God as our driving force.

The first people who sang the song were decisively from diverse races, religions, and economic backgrounds that were brought together so that people would know that it is really not important who you are, where you are from or what you believe in as long as you live in this beautiful world helping to make a strong bond with one another. The purpose of which was to show that true happiness in life can only be attained when you realize that the world that you live in is full of love, understanding and acceptance for one another.

Let There Be Peace On Earth Lyrics

Let There Be Peace on Earth and let it begin with me.
Let There Be Peace on Earth, the peace that was meant to be!
With God as our Father, brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me. Let this be the moment now.
With ev'ry breath I take, let this be my solemn vow;
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally!
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me!

Sleigh Ride

Sleigh Ride Lyrics

Just hear those sleigh bells jingling
Ring ting tingling too.
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you.
Outside the snow is falling
And friends are calling "Yoo hoo."
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you.

Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up,
Let's go, Let's look at the show,
We're riding in a wonderland of snow.
Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up,
It's grand, Just holding your hand,
We're gliding along with a song
Of a wintry fairy land.

Our cheeks are nice and rosy
And comfy cozy are we
We're snuggled up together
Like two birds of a feather would be
Let's take that road before us
And sing a chorus or two
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you.

There's a birthday party
At the home of Farmer Gray
It'll be the perfect ending a perfect day
We'll be singing the songs
We love to sing without a single stop,
At the fireplace while we watch
The chestnuts pop.

Pop! pop! pop!

There's a happy feeling
Nothing in the world can buy,
When they pass around the chocolate
And the pumpkin pie
It'll nearly be like a picture print
By Currier and Ives
These wonderful things are the things
We remember all through our lives!

Just hear those sleigh bells jingling,
Ring ting tingling too
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you,
Outside the snow is falling
And friends are calling "Yoo hoo,"

Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you.
Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up,
Let's go, Let's look at the show,
We're riding in a wonderland of snow.

Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up,
It's grand, Just holding your hand,
We're gliding along with a song
Of a wintry fairy land.

Our cheeks are nice and rosy
And comfy cozy are we
We're snuggled up together
Like two birds of a feather would be
Let's take that road before us
And sing a chorus or two
Come on, it's lovely weather

The Friendly Beasts Lyrics

Jesus, our brother, kind and good,
Was humbly born in a stable rude;
And the friendly beasts around Him stood.
Jesus, our brother, kind and good.

"I," said the Donkey, shaggy and brown,
"I carried His mother up hill and down;
I carried His mother to Bethlehem town."
"I," said the Donkey, shaggy and brown.

"I," said the Cow, all white and red,
"I gave Him my manger for His bed;
I gave Him my hay to pillow His head."
"I," said the Cow, all white and red.

"I," said the Sheep, with the curly horn,
"I gave Him my wool for His blanket warm;
He wore my coat on Christmas morn."
"I," said the Sheep, with the curly horn.

"I," said the Dove, from the rafters high,
"I cooed Him to sleep that He should not cry;
We cooed Him to sleep, my mate and I."
"I," said the Dove, from the rafters high.

Thus every beast by some glad spell,
In the stable dark was glad to tell
Of the gift he gave Emmanuel,
The gift he gave Emmanuel.

Vive le vent

(Jingle Bells)

Refrain

Joyeux, joyeux Noël
Aux mille bougies
Qu'enchantent vers le ciel
Les cloches de la nuit.
Vive le vent, vive le vent
Vive le vent d'hiver
Qui rapporte aux vieux enfants
Leurs souvenirs d'hier, oh !

Refrain

Refrain

Viens, peuple fidèle

(Come All Ye Faithful)

Venez, divin Messie

Venez, divin Messie Lyrics

Original French Lyrics

Venez, divin Messie,
Sauvez nos jours infortunés;
Vous êtes notre vie,
Venez, venez, venez!

1. Ah! descendez, hâtez vous pas,
Sauvez les hommes du trépas,
Secourez nous, ne tardez pas.

Voyez couler nos larmes.
Grand Dieu! Si vous nous pardonnez,
Nous n'aurons plus d'alarmes:
Venez, venez, venez!

2.  Ah! désarmez votre courroux,
Nous soupirons à vos genoux,
Seigneur, nous n'espérons qu'en vous.

Pour nous livrer la guerre,
Tous les enfers sont déchaînés;
Descendez sur la terre,
Venez, venez, venez!

3. Que nos soupirs soient entendus!
Les biens que nous avons perdu
Ne nous seront-ils pas rendus?

Seigneur, Vos saints oracles
A tous les siècles étonnés
Promirent ces miracles,
Venez, venez, venez!

4. Si vous venez en ces bas lieux,
Nous vous verrons victorieux,
Fermer l'enfer, ouvrir les cieux.

Nous l'espérons sans cesse;
Les cieux nous furent destinés:
Tenez Votre promesse;
Venez, venez, venez!

5. Ah! puissions-nous chanter un jour,
Dans Votre bienheureuse cour,
Et Votre gloire et votre amour!

C'est là l'heureux partage
De ceux que vous prédestinez:
Donnez-nous-en la gage:
Venez, venez, venez!
O comes, divine Messiah!
By: Abbé Simon J. Pellegrin

1. O come, divine Messiah!
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph,
And sadness flee away.

2. Dear Savior haste;
Come, come to earth,
Dispel the night and show your face,
And bid us hail the dawn of grace.

3. O come, divine Messiah!
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph,
And sadness flee away.

4. O Christ, whom nations sigh for,
Whom priest and prophet long foretold,
Come break the captive fetters;
Redeem the long-lost fold.

5. Dear Savior haste;
Come, come to earth,
Dispel the night and show your face,
And bid us hail the dawn of grace.

6. O come, divine Messiah!
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph,
And sadness flee away.

7. You come in peace and meekness,
And lowly will your cradle be;
All clothed in human weakness
Shall we your Godhead see.

8. Dear Savior haste;
Come, come to earth,
Dispel the night and show your face,
And bid us hail the dawn of grace.

9. O come, divine Messiah!
The world in silence waits the day
When hope shall sing its triumph,
And sadness flee away.

Original French Lyrics

Quand la neige recouvre la verte finlande
Et que les rennes traversent la lande
Le vent dans la nuit
Au troupeau parle encore de lui

On l'appelait nez rouge
Ha comme il était mignon
Le p'tit renne au nez rouge
Rouge comme un lumignon

Son p'tit nez faisait rire
Chacun s'en moquait beaucoup
On allait jusqu'à dire

On l'appelait nez rouge
Ha comme il était mignon
Le p'tit renne au nez rouge
Rouge comme un lumignon

Maintenant qu'il entraîne
Son char à travers les cieux
C'est lui le roi des rennes
Et son nez fait des envieux

  Vous fillettes et garçons
Pour la grande nuit
Si vous savez vos leçons
Dès que sonnera minuit

 Ce petit point qui bouge
Ainsi qu'une étoile au ciel
C'est le nez de nez rouge
Annonçant le père noel (3x)

English Literal Translation

When the snow covers up the green finland
And that reindeers cross the land
The wind in the night
To the herd still speaks about him

We were calling him red nose
Ha he was so cute
The little red nosed reindeer
Red like a snuff

His little nose was making laugh
Everyone was laughing a lot about it
We even said
That he loved drinking a bit

A fairy heard him
Crying in the night
To comfort him she said
"Come to the paradise tonight"

Like an angel red nose
You'll drive in the sky
With your little red nose
The santa claus' sledge

When his brothers saw him have a so beautiful allure
Following very dignified the roads of the sky
Facing his revels
More than a reindeer were absolutely amazed

We called him red nose
Ah he was so cute
The little red nosed reindeer
Red like a snuff

Now that he pulls
His sledge across the skies
It's him the king of reindeers
And his nose make others envious

You girls and boys
For the great night
If you know your lessons
As soon as will ring midnight

This little dot that moves
Like a star in the sky
It's the nose of red nose
Announcing santa claus (3x)

Petit papa Noël

Petit papa Noël Lyrics

Pour voir si tu m'as apporté

English Literal Translation

It's a beautiful Christmas night
Snow spreads its white coat
And eyes lift toward the sky
On their knees, small children
Before closing their eyelids
Say one last request

Little Father Christmas
When you come down from the sky
With toys by the thousands
Don't forget my little shoe
But before leaving
You must cover yourself well
Outside you will be so cold
It's a little because of me

I can't wait for it to get light
To see if you have brought me
All the lovely toys that I see in dreams
And that I ordered from you

Little Father Christmas
When you come down from the sky
With toys by the thousands
Don't forget my little shoe

And when you are on your beautiful cloud
Come first to our house
I wasn't always very well behaved
But I ask for your forgiveness

Little Father Christmas
When you come down from the sky
With toys by the thousands
Don't forget my little shoe

Little Father Christmas

Minuit, Chrétiens Lyrics

Le Roi des rois naît dans une humble crèche;

Peuple, debout! Chante ta délivrance.
Noël! Noël! Chantons le Rédempteur!
Noël! Noël! Chantons le Rédempteur!

English Literal Translation

Midnight, Christians, it is the solemn hour
When God as man descended among us
To expunge the stain of original sin
And to put an end to the wrath of his father.
The entire world thrills with hope
On this night which gives us a savior.
People, on your knees, attend your deliverance.
Christmas! Christmas! Here is the Redeemer!
Christmas! Christmas! Here is the Redeemer!

The ardent light of our Faith,
Guides us all to the cradle of the infant,
As in ancient times a brilliant star
Conducted the Magi there from the orient.
The King of kings was born in a humble manger;
O mighty ones of today, proud of your grandeur,
It is to your pride that God preaches.
Bow your heads before the Redeemer!
Bow your heads before the Redeemer!

The Redeemer has broken all shackles.
The earth is free and heaven is open.
He sees a brother were there was once but a slave;
Love unites those who restrain the sword.
Who will tell him our gratitude?
It is for us all that he was born, that he suffered and died.
People, stand up, sing your deliverance!
Christmas! Christmas! Let us sing the Redeemer!
Christmas! Christmas! Let us sing the Redeemer!
