The Twelve Days of Christmas

Preface

(Description, History, Interesting Facts, Lyrics, Music Sheets)

The Twelve Days of Christmas is a popular Christmas song in which the increasingly number of gifts for each day of The 12 days of Christmas was enumerated. This Christmas carol was first published in 1780 in England. The very first well-known version of this song was recorded by James O. Halliwell, an English scholar, in 1842.

The Twelve Days of Christmas was written as a Catechism song for young Catholics for them to learn the doctrines of faith. It served as their memory aid. The gifts enumerated in the song have hidden meanings.
