Preface

This Christmas song was translated in a variety of languages subsequently and millions upon millions of products such as stuff toys and decorations were made based on the beloved reindeer.

History and Origin of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Founded on a story written by Robert L. May during the 1930’s, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a conventional Christmas carol that has captured the hearts of many children, and even those children –at-heart, worldwide. Johnny Marks wrote the song during the 1940’s inspired by his brother-in-law’s story. The song was eventually recorded by the famous Gene Autry, which caught on almost instantly, selling over a million copies within just a few weeks.

Due to its widespread success, a movie was also made during the 1960’s in tribute to the song and its subject, with Burl Ives as the narrator. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer became so entangled in the American culture that people view it as a folk song regardless of the fact that it isn’t one.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Lyrics

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you'll go down in history!
